Dell have recalled Hybrid Power Adapters due to risk of shock

The following notice has been issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) of Ireland:

Dell are carrying out a safety recall campaign for Hybrid Power Adapters sold with Power Banks. The adapter is designed to be disconnected from the power bank via release tabs. The adapter can be used separately from the power bank while connected to a power outlet. The power adapters affected were produced between January 2017 and March 2017.

The Hybrid Adapter is black with a label with the Dell logo and the following manufacture code: ‘CN-05G53P-LOC00-XXX-XXXX-AXX’, where the ‘X’ represents a numerical value.

The established safety risk is that affected adapter may have incomplete end cap sonic welds, allowing the cap to separate in normal use. If the end cap comes off, a user could reach into the Hybrid Adapter’s housing, accessing the internal components. If the Hybrid Adapter is connected to power, a potential shock could result.

This recall effects 61 products that were sold in the Republic of Ireland.

What to do

Dell will be contacting affected consumers directly by email or by telephone to inform them of the program and provide options for replacing the adapter.

Consumers can check their Hybrid Power Adapter by visiting http://www.dellproduct.com  and entering the product information.

Consumers may call Dell on 1800-246-105, between 8am – 8pm from Monday to Friday for assistance.
