Alert on Henna products that could pose a serious risk

Suffolk Trading Standards are asking the residents of Suffolk to be on the look out for three henna products that are subject to a RAPEX alert.

The following products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products (Safety) Regulations 2008 (as amended), in that they contain high levels of Para phenylenediamine (PPD) which is classified as strongly sensitising. In addition the labelling does not include warnings which should appear on products containing this substance.

Henna1Brand: Rani Kone

Name: Black Henna

Batch number/Barcode: 6 281104 950147

Description: Henna paste for hand design. Foil bags in cardboard outer packaging (4bags of 10).

Country of origin: Saudi Arabia

The product poses a chemical risk because it contains 2.25 % of Para phenylenediamine (PPD)

 

 

 

Henna2Brand: Moon Star

Name: Herbal Henna

Type/number of model: Burgundy

Batch number/Barcode: 01 Aug 2010, 8906003771041

Description: Hair dye supplied in foil bags in cardboard outer packaging.

Country of origin: India

The product poses a chemical risk because it contains 12.3 % of Para phenylenediamine (PPD)

 

 

Henna3Brand: Moon Star

Name: Herbal Henna

Type/number of model: Copper Brown

Batch number/Barcode: 01 Aug 2010, 8906003771058

Description: Hair dye supplied in foil bags in cardboard outer packaging.

Country of origin: India

The product poses a chemical risk because it contains 8.7 % of Para phenylenediamine (PPD)

RAPEX is the EU rapid alert system that facilitates the rapid exchange of information between Member States and the Commission on measures taken to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of products posing a serious risk to the health and safety of consumers.
